Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner, Walk for Life Pioneer Teacher, Spiritual Director

Your Life is a Sacred Journey

I mostly work with individuals, sparking their interest in discovering movement possibilities that may have seemed difficult, impossible, were forgotten or not explored.

Using small, gentle movements, you discover how you can move in comfort, explore options, where and how you initiate movements, and how much of yourself you involve. These gentle, pleasurable explorations then lead to somatic learning - learning with the body.

This kind of learning is possible for anyone; the only prerequisite is curiosity about how you move.

" I had attended Feldenkrais Awareness Through Movement classes out of interest before, when serious pain in my shoulder led me to a more in depth exploration of the Feldenkrais method. The method is so fascinating because it is not about "fixing a problem", but to raise the student's awareness of habitual patterns and to explore choices and alternatives that may be more comfortable and more efficient."

Let's transform your life togehter.

The Feldenkrais Method®

The Feldenkrais® Method of somatic education uses gentle movement and directed attention to help people learn new and more effective ways of living the life they want. You can increase your ease and range of motion, improve your flexibility and coordination, and rediscover your innate capacity for graceful, efficient movement. Since how you move is how you move through life, these improvements will often enhance your thinking, emotional regulation, and problem-solving capabilities.

The Feldenkrais® Method is based on principles of physics, biomechanics, and an empirical understanding of learning and human development. Moshe Feldenkrais said, “We move according to our perceived self-image.” By expanding your perception and increasing awareness, you will become more aware of your habits and tensions and develop new ways of moving. By increasing sensitivity, the Feldenkrais® Method assists you to live your life more fully, efficiently, and comfortably.

You can experience the Feldenkrais® Method® in two ways. Awareness Through Movement® lessons are taught in a group setting, with students following the verbal instructions of the teacher. Functional Integration® sessions are one on one lessons where the fully clothed student is guided through touch, movement and verbal instruction.

Movement Intelligence™

Move with Awareness. Live with Ease.

Developed by Ruthy Alon based on the Feldenkrais Method ® Ruthy breaks functions into small processes, small movements done with awareness, focusing on reducing effort, and finding ease. This allows the student to organize movement naturally in a way that is incredibly efficient, pleasurable, and sustainable.

The programs incorporate the strategies of organic learning from the Feldenkrais Method ®. Dynamic movement, essential for wellbeing, requires the coordination of all body parts into a consistent and congruent alignment. Too complex to learn based on instructions, learning is evoked by experimenting with new options and variations in movement patterns and experiencing the effects.

Movements are done lying down, sitting or standing with options presented that are possible and safe for the students. For example we hold on to the back of a sturdy chair when doing movement in standing, providing a safe "greenhouse" environment in which we can focus on learning, rather than dealing with the challenges of maintaining balance.

The following programs are taught at Move in Grace

Bones for Life

Walk for Life

All Movement Intelligence programs increase what Ruthy Alon calls: Biological Optimism

Bones for Life®

Human beings are able to stand upright due to the ability of the skeleton to support our weight. In walking the pressure of our body weight is thrust into the ground to evoke a counter pressure that lifts the body and propels it forward. The alignment, coordination and collaboration of all body parts is essential for efficient movement.

This is explored in Bones for Life ® by exploring "processes", small, specific movements. Many processes focus on the dynamic movement and coordination of the spine, pelvis and legs in an upright position.

As I work mostly with individuals I may combine Feldenkrais Functional Integration with a process from Bones for Life or Walk for Life. These short and easy to remember processes can help to settle the intended learning.

Bones for Life® is a registered service mark of Ruthy Alon

Walk for Life

Walk For Life is a program developed by Ruthy Alon to help students to "walk the way nature meant", to (re)discover the innate knowledge we have of how to walk. Simple, but very potent, these movement processes initiate long term changes in coordination, posture, flexibility and balance. The use of walking poles is added for balance as well as to include the arms in the forward motion.

The program can be done by anyone to improve walking and the joy of walking, with or without walking poles.

Spiritual Direction

You are on the Path exactly where you are meant to be right now

Spiritual direction is sometimes described as holy listening, spiritual friendship or sacred journeying. Whatever it is called, spiritual direction offers a time and place to step back and take notice of the sacred in our lives and an opportunity to become aware of the wonderful and surprising ways God is present.

In the busyness of our everyday lives, it is often difficult to recognize the sacred story of our relationship with God and to acknowledge this relationship openly. Spiritual direction gives us a time to notice where God is present in our lives. The spiritual director is a companion of this journey, listening, encouraging. This kind of reflection and awareness often leads to new discernment of what God is calling us to be as we live our story in our family, community and workplace.

You may seek spiritual direction in a time of challenge, of struggles or decisions to be made. Taking some "time out" and having someone listening to you without judgment allows you to reflect on your life events, your response to them, acknowledge your thoughts and emotions and to find God in all of it.

Gifts of Spiritual Direction

  • Notice and savor your experience of God
  • Bring your spirituality into your everyday life
  • Find understanding, encouragement and affirmation
  • Share challenges, losses and disappointments
  • Celebrate joys and growth
  • Grow in relationship with God, yourself, and others
